Wheee another update

May 21, 2007

Hopefully this will be the last “update” for a while.  My original intention was to take a quick break then get the blog up and kicking on a new site that I was running.

Currently that process has only made me want to pull out whats left of my hair.

So my new plan is to keep this blog up and running until that site is ready to go.  So hopefully later today or first thing tomorrow we will be back up and running with the 100 movie reviews.

Thanks for the patience.

Another quick update…

May 17, 2007

One of the technical problems I’m having is that I’m in the process of setting up my own domain to host my blog on on a permanent basis.

Not that I don’t like the “freeness” of WordPress, I just wanted to try it on my own.

I have the bare minimum up at (removed) but I’m still having trouble getting my side bar items set and some other issues.

I know I only have maybe 10 people in the world who read this blog but please be patient as I’m trying to get this moved over.

If you have any suggestions or can link me to some guides on how to make this smoother I would really appreciate it.

100 Movies in 100 Days: Day 40 – Tron

April 20, 2007

Greetings fellow programs.

Tron changed how movies were made period.  Tron hit the big screen in 1982 as the first movie to ever use CGI (computer generated imaging) with live action and the first ever to have full scenes shot using CGI.

Tron stars Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner as programmers who have dual identities in the real world and the computer world.  Jeff Bridges character is a little more literal in this way in that he is digitized into this world by the evil Master Control Program or MCP and must fight his way out to survive.

Tron’s basic story is pretty simple but still entertaining; coming out at a time when most people still knew next to nothing about computers helped with the suspension of disbelief about digitizing someone or how PCs communicated but it still holds together as a cohesive story.

As basic as Tron’s graphics may seem today you have to remember at the time they were using super computers to create these graphics.  The light cycle scene itself is has been copied numerous times by other people from car companies to Family Guy.  If you get a chance to watch it I would recommend the 20th anniversary 2 disc set on DVD.  They do a lot of clean up to the film and the special features are not to be missed.

Tron is rated “PG”

end of line.

100 Movies in 100 Days: Day 25 – The Matrix

April 5, 2007

To a point The Matrix changed the way movies were made almost as much as Star Wars did.

The Matrix hit theatres in 1999 with a small impact but became a huge underground hit, with around ten 10 million dollar weekends based on repeat viewers and word of mouth.  The Wachowski brothers brought their anime/super action/sci-fi vision of the future at us in full force.

The Matrix was the first movie to use the new special effect dubbed “bullet time” but also used tons of the classic special effect know as “wire work” where the actors can do high flying stunts and fights by having themselves hoisted across the set by harnessed wires.

The plot of the movie has a future where humans are slaves to the machines but we don’t know we are slaves because we are plugged into the “matrix” or virtual world where we live in ignorant bliss of our true problem.  Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus) is the leader of a band of rebels that recruits the chosen one Keanu Reeves (Neo) to help them free themselves and the other humans from the tyranny of the machines.

While the two sequels are almost universally hated the original is loved just as much.  The best part is that The Matrix is a great complete movie.  You can watch it and if you want you can watch the sequels but you will still feel very satisfied if you just watch this one and stop.

The Matrix is rated “R” for language and violence.
